My background as a conceptual artist initially made it difficult for me to embrace painting in 2022.
Ironically, there were no drawing or painting classes at college or during my Fine Art degree. Ultimately, dropping out in my second year pushed me further toward alternative art methods.
I admired 14th- to 18th-century painters, but I never envisioned taking en plein air and life drawing classes, or creating studies of flowers and still life as an older artist. I became compelled to create impressions of the world around me, as opposed to manifesting inward-focused concepts through film, writing, photography, and site-specific installations.
In 2022, this spark of ambition led me to dedicate the following years to learning and practising painting.
Now, I enjoy a tangible and exciting journey, appreciating practical learning and techniques that help me create art. In my spare time, I explore galleries and museums and photograph landscapes, hoping to improve my work each day.
